5 stars As you can see from the other reviews, some people give this album average scores (or lower), and then some give it five stars! In that way, I think this album isn't always everyone's cup of tea, and it requires more listening and patience, too. So, they went into the studio with basic ideas, and basically live jammed their way through it all. Unlike their formulated and composed albums, you initially feel there isn't focus. But this is the nature of jamming - it's not quite like playing compositions. But one thing I must say is that this album simply ROCKS! There are so many great moments, moments that sometimes you have to find amongst some very few slightly more monotonous parts that can put off the initial, judgemental listener. The performance from the band is brilliant, and they're really working as a unit. Sometimes the playing is so good and solid that you would never guess they're improvising at all. Also, if you really like Roye Albrighton's guitar (like I do), you'll love this. He really let's himself go and wail like a crazyman. The organ work is brilliant here too. I always felt that the organ work was a bit reserved on the other albums, but on this it's flamboyant and great. Drumming and bass are as solid as ever. Does anyone else think that Derek Mo Moore is a really underrated bassist in the world of prog and music in general? He was amazingly solid and versatile. So, this is a beefy album, lots of minutes of music and so it requires a bit of dedicated listening. But don't be put off by it's lower score when compared to the other albums. It's one of their best, maybe the best when I'm in the right mood! Plus, although the compositions aren't as long, the album is less proggy. Which I think explains some of the lower reviews. Sometimes it's basically just blues or rock and roll. So if you like blues and rock and roll... you'll have no problems.
