5 stars In some respects, the solo albums of PH are quite different from the VDGG production. He both explores and exposes the deepest rooms of his soul in his solo outputs, which is not the case in the vdgg albums usually. However, both these branches convergate to each other, often they are overlapping, but, generally, the solos are more personal, more acoustic and intimate. His expression pulses between two poles: silent meditations and angry roaring. In some albums the former prevails, in others the latter one. I personally like the most those his works which are well-balanced between these two etremes. And that one belongs among them (others are e.g. foolsmate, chameleon, silent corners, out of water, as close as this, fireships). The reason for the title, in my opinion, is following. If you are a bit educated in chemistry, you should know that the pH value tells us something about concentration of some ions (h30+) in a solution. When pH=7, the solution is neutral, and, by instance, water we need to drink and we live off is of pH7. I think that peter tried to prepare here the solution of pH7. I do not mean that there are no emotions and extremes, they are, as always. But, collectivelly, they are perfectly balanced as a complex work. Thus, you can find here all the well-known molecules of the ph music: sad love songs, simple heart-moving melodies, roaring souls, philosophy, psychology, experimental searchings, rolling rhytm balls and avalanches, and, what is not usual in his music, a bit of musical humour. And the coctail is served to us perfectly played, sang, recorded, produced. It belongs to my very ph favourites.
