5 stars Trully exceptional..This is only my fourth review here and I risk being accused of reviewing only masterpieces..Well the truth is that I find a bit unappealing to bash albums or bands..Thats why I tend to review something when I come accross something truely fantastic as this band and this album..Did I say masterpiece beforehand? Well, it is indeed a heavy word, thus I believe it should be used modestly. In that case however, things seem to lead at that direction. What does Frost* have that separates them from other bands? Well except from technical skills and the hard-to-find exquisite songwriting and melodies, their distinguishing features are two things : they are categorized as neo-prog but they were put under that label simply because they had to be put somewhere. Frost* with this album have accomplished a unique decomposition of the term, something that reminded me the unparallel critical success of Marillion's 'Marbles'. I attribute this achievement to their unique sound. The other striking thing about this band is that they managed to give so much essence in such short 3-4 minute songs, that is something which most bands on this website are simply not capable of. As a result Frost* managed to be prog as hell but at the same time their work is pop enough to be easily enjoyed by people who dont have a decent appreciation for prog music..A crown achievement really..The highlight of the album is undoubtedly track 5, Dear Dead Days although every song has something for you relying heavily to the wonderful melodies. They really know the job..I cant wait for their next effort..Until then, 5 stars for Experiments in Mass Appeal.
