2 stars Scrambled eggs anyone ?

I have invested heavy into Egg by buying their albums at Ebay. Not cheap by any standards. They have so far gathered dust because I have problems understanding this much hyped band. As a symphonic prog fan, I like my music structured and melodic. I therefore find this album is almost impossible to review. Please keep in mind that I like my music structured and melodic. This album is on the opposite end of the scale. But I have forked out a fortune to buy it so it is my right to have an opinion about it. That's the dilemma.....

This album is far less coherent than the two first Egg albums. Two albums I kind of like. This album has some good ideas thrown around in an unstructured fashion. There are some good HATFIELD AND THE NORTH ideas here. They get wasted in the mix (yes, I have the Virgin reissue) and the lack of work put into them. EGG did not exist at that time as an unit and that is evident on this album. The bass and the organs are good. Germ Patrol is a good song. The rest of the songs are both unfinished and underworked.

I much prefer the two first albums to this one. This album is by no means a bad album. It is just that I expected a lot better than this one. This is an album only for Canterbury scene and Egg collectors. Yes, that may make it an essential album. That's a dilemma too....
