2 stars Pulsar would become a very good band during the course of their next couple of albums, but this debut is shoddy at best.

You can tell there is great potential here... they would rise to meet this potential on their next album. But as for 'Pollen': the drums are very weak, unforgivably weak, and the music feels like it's going to fall apart at any moment. The keyboardist is decent, but hasn't come into his own yet, or just hasn't developed very interesting ideas yet. The vocals are quite good for the most part, but not enough to save this album.

The sound is big and spacey, but low-rent. It feels like a home demo recording to me. There are no real highlights to point out.

It's not the worst album ever, but about as far from essential as can be. I can only recommend this to hardcore Pulsar fans who already know their later work... and maybe stoned Space Rock devotees.
