LATERALUS

TOOL is a fancy band that uses weird time signatures and lyrics with deep meanings. Lateralus is in my opinion their best album they have. Not only are the band members great on their instruments, Maynard James Keenan is also a great singer with a distinctive voice. The album is really long and it takes a lot to sit through it but it's a great listen and it makes the listener think about the music. The Grudge is a great opening track and the songs Parabol and Parabola are great too. Then there is Schism which is one of their better known songs. (I personally prefer Parabol/a.) Then there is the title track which uses the Fibonacci sequence. (I am pretty sure this song is the only reason why most people know about it.) I don't really understand the whole concept but I enjoy the song, which is the whole point anyway. The album is really long and the songs are really long but Lateralus is a great album. It is not my favorite progressive metal album, but the fact that it is so influential and important to progressive and metal music is undeniable. Essential listening for the progressive music fan and the metal fan in general.
