FAMOUS LAST WORDS

While you can't flash a vinyl in the toillette you can use it as a dart pointer-mark the songs between the pauses...1, 5, 10, 12, 20 and have fun... but that's another story and surely not concerning this unfairly judged record which was released in this so strange and fluidic decade such as the 80's. I believe, many of us who were growing up as teenagers at the 80's can now judge and see things more clearly and revise for many of the albums of that decade which was as i have said before a difficult season for rock music in general...anyway... First let straight up things-Supertramp were never a classic progressive rock band-they played pop and rock and blues music and sometimes they had some strong or lesser strong prog leanings to their music, so we can not accuse them of being poppish- i can easily say that i admire the way Supertramp were creating this specific pop music. Famous Last Words is one of those albums with a lost potential of being another classic, but the two geniouses of the band were collided and the sense of partition and antagonism between them is very obvious, a fact that derailed this album from being another Breakfast In America. We have two great songs here, first is Waiting So long with its dark and bitter atmosphere closing with an exceptional electric guitar solo and Don't Leave Me Now with its melancoly fade out drumming . Quite close come My Kind Of Lady where mr Helliwell really shines with his excellent sax soloing, Crazy and It's Raining Again with its classic Hodgsonian flavour and last but not least is Bonnie. It's not really a full four star album but it is surely a full three...i will give four in favour of the generally unfairly judgement for so many albums of the 80's...
