PALIMPSESTE

ANAMORPHOSE were out of France releasing this sole album back in 1986. It was actually recorded live and we will hear applause after every track. Such an impressive release and all instrumental. The violin, piano and sax take turns soloing over top and all three put on quite the show. They are a five piece with a bassist and drummer rounding out the lineup plus the sax player adds flute and the piano man synths. I'm kind of surprised I like this so much as we get plenty of soprano sax and the violin sounds old school. But the bass and drums absolutely kill on this record. Just check out the opening of "Triphrons" for an example of that. The synths often create atmosphere which I like. I like when the soprano sax and violin trade off before 3 minutes on "Triphrons". Most of my appreciation goes to the bass player and drummer but man that guy playing sax is worth the price of admission. He gets dissonant at times and plays in different styles. Not a lot of flute from him on here but there is on "Triphons" which apparently is my favourite track. I would say this one is a must if your into the Jazz Rock. I have even more of an appreciation of this album given it was released in 1986.
