4 stars In my view quite possibly the most underrated Hawkwind album of them all. Most of the lyric are very very bleak and there is some excellent social commentary. Yet despite this morbid outlook there are some wonderful tracks and some wonderful playing. Huw Lloyd Langton does some of his lead best guitar work on this album, particularly on Rocky Paths, Living on a knife edge and the single B-side Trans-dimensional man. There is also some wonderful psychaedelia on tracks such as Psychosonia, Virgin of the world and Disintegration.

You will either love or hate the Michael Moorcock vocal on Coded Languages but the words are fantastic and its delivered with a punky feel to it. Sonic Attack is a good opener to such a dark album but it does suffer from being inferior to earlier versions, so that is about the only down point to this whole album. I also like Harvey Bainbridge's understated bass guitar work that are constructed of mostly simple but very effective riffs. A very heavy album in the true sense of the word.
