4 stars Sweet Child in Time, You'll see the Line

I will probably make enemies with my opinion here, but i really never understood the hype of this album beyond "Child In Time" and "Speed King". Those two tracks are of course, tracks that probably will be listented to for centuries to come. In fact to me, "Child In Time" competes with Zeps Stairway for the greatest hard rock song ever written. I saw Purple live here in Finland in December and was partially disappointed when they didn't play "Speed King" let alone "Child In Time"(Monsieur Blackmoore got anything to do with this?). The album! Right.

The rest of the tracks really don't do justice for those affore mentioned masterpieces. They are to me pretty boring, "Bloodsucker" and "Flight of the rat" being slightly exceptional, but nothing groundbreaking. This album is probably the most historical rock album of all time, but in terms of proto-prog or prog relations, this is a average rocker with two masterpiece tracks. Without SK and CIT this would be worth 3 stars, but im gonna give it 4.
