4 stars This is an album of high quality music ,not at all a comercial one and it's offering some serious moments of pure enchantment in terms of innovative rhythms, ideas and musical soundscapes exposed!Robin Taylor is an extremelly talented musician with a wide range of expression and a totally different approach about each new cd that he is doing! This new ARTIFICIAL JOY album is definitelly more mature and elaborated then the previous ones, more rhythmic and dynamic especially! It has plenty of excellent compositions, very diverse and intriguingly composed and is exposing a mature and elaborated music that can be put in the avant garde category...RIO even, because it's author is always searching on each album something new and unexplored-musically speaking! The rich instrumentation is also very varied and we find here-surprisingly- a guitar player that has many yeas in the service of metal music MICHAEL DENNER-former KING DIAMOND guitarist-a major surprise! Here Denner is in a totel different register-very eleborated and definitelly unusual for a metal guitar player! The production of the album is marvelous, crystal sound and the characteristic of this album is especially it's diversity and unusual soundscapes-it is transmiting some wonderful emotions and moods-from melancholy to reveerie, from dreaming state to oriental fascination !Dig deep into ARTIFICIAL JOY,in the end you'll have a major satisfaction in discovering something original and atractive!4 STARS for a pretentious and quite difficult to dig album, but made in a wonderful way!
