4 stars I'm sorry but no matter what ANYBODY tells you, Metallica is NOT a progressive band whatsoever. They are a metal band and that's it. On a website where you would expect people to know what progressive is, it astounds me that people are justifying this as prog. Note: I'm saying they shouldn't be on this website, though. Anyway, as far as the album goes it sure is a return to form after Load, Reload and St. Anger. Death Magnetic is one of my favorite Metallica albums, I mean it really rocks and there really isn't a bad song on it, though its not their best. Before I go into the track by track review, I would just like to comment on the loudness war thing. Yes, this really is a problem on SOME of the copies of this CD. I was fortunate enough to get a copy that has good sound quality, but it's still really loud.

1. That Was Just Your Life- A rockin way to start off this album. Builds up suspense and its one of my top 5 on Death Magnetic.

2. The End Of The Line- It's a good song, but probably my least favorite. The mellow part is pretty cool.

3. Broken, Beat and Scarred- Another one of my top 5 this song is definitely underrated and really rocks.

4. The Day That Never Comes- Probably the most well-known song on this album. It's really good once it gets going.

5. All Nightmare Long- This one just might be my favorite. Awesome riff, awesome jam in the middle, awesome everything. You gotta blast this one. In my top 5, obviously.

6. Cyanide- Another underrated song that's in my top 5. What a great riff!

7. The Unforgiven III- Part 1 of this was great but part 2 was not so I didn't know what to expect. It's the most mellow song on this album but it's pretty good.

8. The Judas Kiss- More good, rockin stuff. It's underrated once again.

9. Suicide and Redemption- Well, Metallica doing a 10 minute instrumental is pretty daring for them. It has a great bass line but it's too long. The mellow part is cool.

10. My Apocalypse- Just like the good old days, Metallica ends their album with an insane rocker. This is the last song in my top 5.

All in all, it was a great album and is worth the money. But try not to get one with a loudness war.
