4 stars Live recordings from Miles first ever visit to Japan. Whenever the year is 1964, the music played is still pure acoustic post-bop, but there are few interesting moments.

First, there is participated sax player Sam Rivers on this recordings. In mid 60-s he was one of first avant sax players, and in you can hear him playing on this recordings on " too avant manner" comparing with other musicians. Another interesting moment is there are both Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Tony Williams presented as well, so you can hear how this future fusion star team sounded before fusion was invented!

Not an album for fusion lovers, this release is really great classic release for fans of Miles post-bop period ( and contains very first signs of changes coming).

My rating is 3,5, rounded to 4.
