I know I am breaking the house rules by stealing from and commenting on another review and a highly esteemed ProgArchives reviewer Evolver. But he has really hit the nail on the head with his statement. This sampler from Emkog Records in many ways express the whole ProgArchives ethos as I see it. For me, being in ProgArchives is exploring new music. Most of it well outside my comfort zone. That to me is progressive music. Progression through innovation and exploration. Like the music on this sampler.

Emkog Records artists is pushing the envelope...... and hard. Deluge Grander is in my comfort zone, although on it's fringes. Birds & Buildings is well outside my cozy comfort zone. Their dissonance jazzy eclectic prog is excellent though. Something they prove on the three tracks on this album (and their contribution to the final odds & ends track). This is a band I will open my heart for in the coming months. Mission accomplished by this label sampler.

All Over Everywhere is....... well, all over everywhere. The vocals are horrible stuffed in the background and the mix must be wrong here. Or ? Besides of that, I believe there is another band here which will play sonatas on my heart strings with their jazzy rock. The Cerebus Effect is good fusion track which plays well with a fusion fan like myself. Actually, this track is the biggest surprise of this sampler. I was not aware of how good this band was. Another heart opener, I am afraid. I will soon need a heart surgery.

In short, this is one of the best ever label samplers I have ever heard. I have 20 years experience in the business so I should know. It is a pity that the production is not the best. But the album is still worthy the very low price it is being offered for. I already have Grander Deluge's debut album and will purchase the rest of these albums on the back of this sampler. I would be very surprised if I am alone in this upcoming shopping spree. After me, guys....... and behave.
