3 stars Cardiacs is a band. I love them Cardiacs people and having read sundry reviews of their noise on this site it is clear that they is a quicksand minded band who pull you into their world and not lets go.....no never. So I guess I'm preaching to the converted in my scribblings. But hey ho, nothing ventured no-one caned......

This is not the best starting point for them what is not part of Cardiacs cult . For the newcomer 'Sing To God' is the instruction. We here hear the return of Sarah's squawky sax and a more prongy approach to tunesmithery. Less of the EPIC toonage that ensnared us moons ago. 'Cry Wet Smile Dry' has one of those glorious bouncy choruses that makes you smile from ear to ear and was purloined by Blur for Modern Life Is Rubbish.

Much of it sounds like Cardiacs by numbers (which, of course, only Cardiacs is allowed to do) and something is lacking. Can't put my finger on it but it somehow doesn't 'connect'.

Listening now I is, and the hymn section at the end of Jetterbug is not as stirring as older efforts.

To conclude, even as a huge fan of the band I have to say this is a weak effort ('effort' being an apt word) so sadly I have to relate that this is for the committed only.

Oh, and get well soon Tim. Our thoughts are with you.
