4 stars I heard about Kino from the Transatlantic web site late last year. I saw that Pete Trewavas was in it and I thought I"d check it out. I downloaded the sampler and was blown away. I hadn't been this excited about a cd in a long time. February finally rolled around and I found an internet radio archive of it and downloaded it. To put it simply, it's one of the best melodic prog albums I"ve ever heard. I finally got a real copy a few days ago and I couldn't be happier.

In the last 2 weeks I've probably heard the entire album 10 times. I don't think there is a weak track on this album. The highlights for me are People, Perfect Tense, and Holding On. This band has a very strong sense of songwriting and melody. Don't get me wrong, the musicianship is great too. However, the writing is some of the best I've ever heard and gives me something to aspire to as a budding songwriter. Every section of each song servers a purpose and there's no filler. It's just a solid hour of excellent, well-written, and melodic prog rock. And not a minute is wasted.

This is my favorite melodic "pop/prog" release since A.C.T.'s Last Epic. If you like prog music that's not a shredfest and has some meaning and feeling behind it, then check out this album. I don't think you'll be dissapointed. To any reviewers calling it average, I say, "What have you been listening to?!". You must have a library of godly music to rank this anywhere below Excellent. Average this album is not. It's an excellent debut album and gives me high hopes for the future of this band.
