3 stars First off, this is not a progressive rock album. This is a Doo-Wop/Comedy album. I'd have to say this is for fans of Frank mostly, those who know Zappa's early Doo-Wop infatuation as a teenager. This is pretty much Doo-Wop through Frank's eyes, in a silly manner. The songs here mix the silliness of the early Mothers having fun with the art of Doo-Wop as they all got a kick out of it. These songs later acted as comic interludes at Mothers' shows. The songs here are actually pretty infectious and orchestrated way out of the Doo-Wop norm, especially Stuff Up the Cracks and Jelly Roll Gum Drop. Of course, the remastered versions needed a bass and drum track because the masters had messed them up, so Arthur Barrow and Chad Wackerman's tracks are on the CD, vinyl will have the originals. 6.9/10
