3 stars I published an interview with this band some time ago and here comes a review of their only album to this date.

Vivid Glimpse is a new English neo-prog band. As a neo prog band starting out, you can either sound like Genesis/Marillion or you can strike out in the direction of pop rock/AOR. Vivid Glimpse has done a mix of both. The cover art work of the album is a solid shot in the foot by the band. It is tacky, kitsch, camp and everything most of us prog fans detest with as much burning passion we can muster.

The music has a bit of a camp factor too. A song like Deep Inside My Heart with lyrics and melody is a song more suitable on a Westlife album than on a neo prog album. That according to what I regard as neo prog. This song makes me cringe and bless the fact that nobody else is in the same room as me.

On the other hand, the title track is winding it's way around the Genesis territory aka Wind And Wuthering. There are also some other good symphonic prog melody lines dotted around the album. The vocals is good throughout and the instruments is competently played. The modern soundscape is good and is mainly based on synths.

In short; half of this album is good to very good. The rest does not stand up to my scrutiny. The art work taken into account, I am not sure what we can expect from the upcoming album.

I give their debut album three stars under doubts.
