4 stars It's a family affair this time with band leader Ed Wynne (gtr & synths) wife Brandi (bass) and now son Silas (synths) jamming together on this hour-long exploration of space/prog rock.

Given its their 28th LP we shouldn't expect too many surprises and there aren't any. It's the unique blend of rhythmic, spacy electronica, layers of synthesizers and sequencers, world-beat, psychedelia, Oriental influences, odd time signatures, tempos and impossible mash ups that bring the faithful back every time.

That in itself is compelling enough but then when you throw in the fluid, spacey guitar work of the unfairly under-recognized guitar genius of Ed Wynne, the results can be spectacular.

There's a sweet spot in the album from Knurl through Lost in the Sky and title track Paper Monkeys.

This is an above average Ozrics release which matches the quality of 90's high watermarks like Become The Other and Arborescence.

If you are unfamiliar with Ozric Tentacles, this is a perfect example of everything the band does well, a reasonable enough place to start your collection to get caught up in their mind-expanding groove.
