5 stars Chariots of Fire by Vangelis is a classic soundtrack album that while may not be his most defining moment, still stands as one of his strongest. The most well known piece from the film, "Titles", is at once beautiful, symphonic, the definition of majesty, and has one of the most recognizable melodies ever written. This melody, along with the ones from the other 5 great songs on Side One are expertly expanded upon in the epic that fills out side two, a very sophisticated composition that flows effortlessly from theme to theme, builds to a highly moving climax, and contains some truly beautiful piano work. Those themes also work very well as individual songs on the first side, as the haunting and suspenseful atmosphere of "Five Circles" and "100 Meters" , the very Vangelis-like "Eric's Theme", and the pleasant cover of "Jerusalem" will attest to. The production is also great, giving Vangelis' signature synth sounds a really consistant feel throughout the whole album.
