5 stars ok, a rare review for me.

I have "been with" Rush for a number of years and my earliest recollection was of seeing them on their moving pictures tour at the Deeside leisure centre in 1980. Fast forward to last year and it was great to catch up with them again on Time Machine still sounding fresh.

I am probably not one of the Rush traditionalists who harkers back to the 2112, Hemisphere's etc. My favourite Rush era was actually around Power Windows and (especially) Hold your fire. I can still listen to those albums today some 30 years later.

During the last few years, whilst I still counted myself a fan I was less interested by what they were doing as they had pared their sound back to - what to me at least - was more along the lines of their 70's sound.

I say these things just to give a little context to the impact Clockwork Angels has had on me. I always approach new material (from any band) with a little trepidation and am desperate to get through those first few listens unscathed (so to speak). I can honestly say that this is the first Rush album for years that has really got my attention and I have already listen to the album from start to finsh multiple times.

There is not a weak track here at all.

What Rush has done with this album has been to add textures that were somehow missing from the last few albums. There are plenty of quiet melodic moments but also moments of tremendous power that makes it difficult to believe this is a three piece.

Looking forward to the tour!
