5 stars Absolutely Free has a very nice feel for Zappa album and is a great follow-up album for Freak Out!.

The album starts of with Plastic People which is little catchy song. Then comes The Duke of Prunes segment which flows very smoothly and flawlessly. Very jazzy feel as well as some great guitar work by Frank. Next comes the very good Call Any Vegetable segment where you can find some even better guitar work by Frank as well as very long and nice sax solo in The Invocation and Ritual Dance of the Young Pumpkin. The long solo's give the beginning of the album a very nice feel and set the stage for the rest of the album.

The rest of the album is full of shorter songs that don't really connect together but are still worth listening too. Big Leg Emma and Why Dont'Cha Do Me Right are very solid songs but not as intresting as the previous 7 tracks. The next 3 tracks are pretty much the same albeit the satire type song of America Drinks. Then comes a very catchy tune by the name of Son of Suzy Creamcheese. A very simple song but simple seems to work as it is very upbeat and is the type of song that get's stuck in your head. Finally is the highlight of the album in Brown Shoes Don't Make It. This rapidly changing and very funny song is full of foreshadowing for the rest of Zappa's career. Very strange at some points but all around the gem on the album. The album finally ends with a song very simliar to America Drinks but this time named America Drinks and Goes Home.

In my opinion Zappa's best all around album. A excellent pick-up 5/5.
