4 stars One of a kind!

For the novice, this band from Poland have established a genre that's near impossible to put in a box. Undoubtedly, they are Prog with a vengeance, refusing to compromise. Rock, Symphonic, Eclectic, Jazz-Rock? Yes, they are all of that in one very pleasing package.

This album from 1977 contains just about all of the elements they've represented back then - and in perfect harmony.

Epic work it may not be, but over two long tunes we hear great grooves, riffs emotive vocals, soaring Mini-Moog and innovative lead guitars.

To sum it up, it's like a CV on behalf of the band. Perhaps not their very best, but a great introduction to their combined talents where the different ideas blend in perfectly within extended pieces. The album comes across as a mix of the previous "Novy Horyzont" and "Pamiec". Groovy bits and decent vocal melodies combined.

The - another very long - bonus track on the CD release comes across as a pleasant noodling at the studio where someone has failed to turn the recording off. And thank God for that! Here, the band is just having fun for even most of their studio albums are just one take, with little- if any - overdubs. They are that good.

Just how do you describe Indian ragas on acoustic guitar accompanied by a Moog solo before the piece turns into a bombastic Symphonic offering followed by rather mediocre vocals that end with a groovy riff? Well, I can't but I am left in a state of joyful amazement.

This package is just a tiny bit short of a 5, but that's only in comparison with the band's even better works at other times.
