"Distant Hills" manage to come back to the second album's inspiration. A voluptuous album with a meditative mind, one of their very best. "Canyon song" features a luminous instrumental flight, this tune has a recurrent melodic theme among Oregon's discography. The other pieces are in a contemplative, introspective mood with a rich instrumentation featuring superb sitar parts by Collin Walcott, excellent acoustic guitar by Ralph Towner, to say the least.

One of the early classics, if rather Towner top-heavy composition-wise. I prefer this version of the title track to the Solstice remake. Canyon Song is inspirational in this genre - truly timeless. Essential for an understanding of the group's development from unpolished Paul Winter Consort days to the heady exoticism and maturity of the Elektra era.
