CREATURES OF THE UNDERWORLD

SEID are from Norway and they seem to share the same spirit as their counrty-men the SMELL OF INSENCE. In fact they borrowed the SMELL OF INCENCE's M400 mellotron for this recording. These guys are heavier though but no less psychedelic. Some hilarious pictures in the liner notes as well. Man i've enjoyed this album and I know they are from Norway but I kept hearing this Swedish vibe ( i've probably just insulted them) bringing LANDBERK and ANEKDOTEN to mind at times.

"Cafe Lola" has some nasty organ as horns and mellotron help out. It kicks in with vocals before a minute. The horns are blasting. Mellotron before 2 minutes as the tempo continues to shift. It's intense after 3 1/2 minutes then the vocals return as it settles but not for long. "Creatures From The Underworld" has a heavy beat and soundscape as the vocals join in. Just a great sound to this one, mellotron too. "Swamp Doom" is my least favourite but it's still pretty good. Heavy with vocals and the guitar comes to the fore at one point. "Evil Gnome" has a heavy rhythm that actually reminds me of a Jannick Top song. it then kicks in with organ and more. Back to that Zeuhlish rhythm before 2 minutes. Some crazy vocals follow then it picks up as contrasts continue. "Dragon & Demons" is spacey to start then we get vocals before a minute. Vocals continue as the sound kicks in and then settles down. Ripping guitar and sound before 3 1/2 minutes. Intense with mellotron and organ after 5 minutes. Sax before 6 minutes. Love the closing section from 6 1/2 minutes to the end. Then we get this "Intermission" piece that sounds amazing with floating organ.

"Do As Your Told" opens with heavy drums and killer organ as the guitar joins in. Vocals a minute in. It settles back for a minute then kicks back in after 3 minutes with vocals. "Moonprobe" has a good rhythm and it's fairly dark with organ before a minute. I like it ! Trippy stuff. It turns spacey again until 3 minutes. "Starla's Dream" is a vocal track that I adore. The music is urgent everytime the vocals stop. Sax too in this one and i'm reminded of ANEKDOTEN at times. "Flight Towards The Sun" has some East Indian dude speaking as the music plays on. It's building a minute in. It kicks in at 4 minutes and i'm thinking LANDBERK for some reason. It then picks up.

The band thanks Dave Schmidt from SULA BASSANA in the liner notes. This is easily 4 stars for my tastes. Sure there is some average passages but the good far out-weighs them.
