4 stars The twelve song collection of cuts presents a new generation of prog artists. Drawing on the demons and wizards influence of acts from the self-indulgent 70's, before punk and new wave took over, the artists locked-in on Prog Spawn resist wearing capes, while ambitiously chasing musical magic via complex compositions.

The Prog Spawn disc opens with Mystery's "Travel to the Night". The long intro number is a retro mix of Rush meets Kansas, that morphs into a cosmic cruise of progressive mayhem. The eight-minute song from Mystery unleashes a flood of uniquely arranged tracks, that includes Big Big Train's "Summer's Lease", "Tightly Wound" from The Pineapple Thief, Touchstone's spellbinding "Shadow", and Panic Room's "Apocalypstick", which is augmented by the vocals of Anne-Marie Helder.
