JARRE IN CHINA

I did not really pay attention when I purchased this DVD because I thought that this DVD is the video version of Jarre "Concerts in China". I was wrong because it's totally different live set. The DVD package of this live set is completely awesome because it's produced with DTS and THX. The sound quality and picture quality are really top notch. Watching this DVD is a rewarding experience. Not that the live stage is set spectacular but also the inclusion of Chinese orchestra is a great idea. The opening orchestra at DVD 1 opening set wonderful ambient for the show. The selection of tracks are mostly those who have been familiar with our ears.

Jarre also uses orchestra soloist with traditional Chinese string instruments and those with alto. He himself also plays electronic clarinet to perform solo with the lady that plays Chinese string. I could not let my fingers not increasing the volume of my amplifier throughout the show as the sound quality of THX and DTS have spoken by themselves. What makes me happy is the inclusion of classic "Fishing Junks At Sunset" and "Souvenir Of China" which also appeared at the Concerts in China. Unfortunately the show seems to focus on Jarre as he shares the largest (90%) screen time whereas he seems like not playing at all. There is section where he uses guest electric guitar player that plays wonderfully with his style reminds me to Yngwie Malmsteen.

The DVD extras is a good documentary which is well worth watching. There is also photo gallery. The audio CD is a bit worse than any other Jarre CD especially when it's compared to Docklands live CD .
