EXIT

Not as good as Zarathustra (one of the best prog rock albums) (For this new effort mood of the 70s prog scene is missing) However, after repeated listenings there is a lot to be appreciated in this album Also to consider that the expectation bar is set very high for this band

If you expect from this album something like "Zarathustra" you will be disappointed. Here there's no much left of the old Museo Rosenbach. The only founding members in the new line-up are Alberto Moreno and Giancarlo Golzi and the music is definitively closer to the elegant pop of the Matia Bazar (band where have been playing Giancarlo Golzi and Sergio Cossu) than to "Zarathustra". "Exit" should be a concept album but in my opinion the project is too much confused.

According to the official website of the band, "Exit is a concept album of a different kind because the common thread running through all the songs is fragmentary element. In this album Museo Rosenbach has apparently told isolated events, occasionally in the form of regular songs. These are peculiar moments of a daily experience, feelings, moods, personal memories, impressions from mass-media news, thinking habits of the average man".

In my opinion the "concept" is a little bit pretentious and the ideas sometimes seem to get lost into the mist. The first track "Exit" is a kind of short intro to the album with a good acoustic guitar arpeggio (and "obscure" lyrics). Then, with "Il terzo occhio" the music turns to a smart pop sound. My favourite track is "Il re del circo" ("The King of The Circus", lyrics about the civil war in Yugoslavia) where you can find at least some hints of progressive. Good also the final track "Un porto nel sole", though not outstanding...

On the whole the album, although it's not exactly a prog-rock one, is not all that bad and it could be at least of some interest for collectors and fans.

As I said in my review for "Zarathustra", I easily compare the careers (?) of "Museo" and "Locanda Delle Fate". I just hope that this album will be better than the come-back one from "Locanda" (which shouldn't be too difficult).

When you have a look at the line-up, the worse can be expected though. Only two original members. Will they be able to convey the spirit of the band ?

Well, I must say that from the very first notes, this album catches your attention and only leaves you when it is over. This album is short, but so powerful. Fantastically Italian proggy during the first three songs : convincing vocals, great compositions, great production, superb keys. I must be dreaming. So far it is a fabulous album. I really did not expect this. What a good surprise.

The first weak song is "Love". Sort of groovy / lounge type of song (especially in its intro). But I guess that it was not possible to continue as the album started. But "Museo" is back in business with the wonderful "Abbandonati". It is my fave of the album. Fully symphonic with lush keys and a great guitar solo (rare enough in their case to be mentioned).

The grandeur of this album just goes on and on because "Illuse..." is a symphonic jewel. So powerful, so emotional, so... great ! I can't help. I'm not the kind of guy who is obessed by complexity. So when a band performed straight -forward and pleasant music, I have no problems in applauding with all my heart & soul. And this is exactly what happens with this album so far.

"Il Re del Circo" is one of the most intricate songs from "Exit". Somewhat funky but extremely pleasant for most of it.Powerful vocals and a band at unison. Such nice moments are truely a gift offered to their fans. Exciting, powerful, ...Or is it just beautiful ?

The end of the album is not as strong but "Köln Raid" features convincing vocals and a superb guitar break while "Exit Sturm" is a pleasant acoustic instrumental track.

I am rather positive as far as the rating is concerned; but frankly I really like this album. Surprinsingly, it is almost confidential on PA. Almost no review. What happens guys ? Do listen to it. It is a good album. Maybe that some of you might think that four stars is a bit over rated but three is just too short to describe how I feel while listening to it.

The most important thing here is to abandon the old sound of Museo. 90's simply aren't 70's and I know, there are elements that not everybody will be able to get (sometimes pop rhythm and "pace of song"). But there are great songs Illuze Le Intenzioni for example that brings this album from depths of abyss (of new RPI style from old RPI bands). In overall, this album is very pleasant and to be honest, there's nothing bad about it. It's different, even different than new RPI (from new bands). Worse than previous ones, OK, I admit. But still not complete disaster.

4(-), of course one grade lower, when you compare it with their Zarathustra. But everything will look pale in shade of masterpiece. One strange fact, later songs are better than first ones (which are little bit pop).

''Zarathustra'' was more or less regarded as an album created by fascists due to its extreme cover and lyrics and Museo Rosenbach disbanded after some concerts during the summer of 73' with Giancarlo Golzi continuing as a member of the Pop Rock act Matia Bazar.Fast forward some 25 years Golzi along with Alberto Moreno re-established the group with new members Andrea Biancheri on vocals, Marco Balbo on guitars, Marioluca Bariona and Sergio Cossu both on keyboards.Between December 98' and December 99' the new MR formation created the album ''Exit'', which was released in 2000 on Nuova Carisch, the new name of the old Disco Carisch label.

Forget about the bombastic, heavy and complex sound of the old Museo Rosenbach.''Exit'' is basically a melodic Italian Rock album with a beautiful lyrical approach and occasional progressive vibes at moments, the focus though remains an atmospheric song-based style with limited yet interesting instrumental parts.New singer Biancheri has a nice, sensational voice, offering rare emotions, and the music seems to have been built around his warm vocals.Music is quite laid-back with a deep sense of melody, based on synths and guitars, following the new Art Rock trend.Some parts of the album have a good orchestral sound among the more accesible themes, while here and there the listener faces the old side of the group through some carefully-placed organ and Mellotron washes.However the sound actually never escapes the easy path of melodic and atmospheric Rock, so you shouldn't expect any kind of intricate interplays or complicated instrumental lines from ''Exit''.

If you reach this album as an old Museo Rosenbach fan, then the game is lost.For what it is, ''Exit'' is a great album full of emotional moments and great melodies.Recommended, but be sure to listen to this new formation as a totally new entry with no comparisons to the vintage years of the group.
