POHÁDKY ZE ZAPOTREBÍ (FAIRYTALES FROM NEEDLAND)

After their rather tough to swallow Hollywood, this album is the logical following of Hollywood, even in Vetisek's artworks (probably his most ambitious, IMHO, and my fave of all UJD albums), but PZZ appears that it is more varied in its musical approach. Even if their basic sound remains the same, they seem to climb another step upwards in their proggy post punk cum Gypsy-jazz (ala Cardiacs meets Miriodor, Alamaailman Vasarat, etc..). Nothing new under the sun, as you can see/hear

Another typically avant-prog album that has difficulty not only standing out from the UJD discography, but even more so wmong the hundred of such albums that have been recorded since the early 80's with Debile Menthol's debut album. One of the rare different sounding track, like the piano-lead Bilà Hol or the following Hlina and Tadyna (a quieter piano-laden track), they of course tend to stand out from the rest of the album, but forget to be outstanding (except for Tadyna).

Actually the least one can say is that most, if not all, UJD albums are relatively even and PZZ could easily be the only album you'd need from this otherwise impressive group, because owning one of their 90's album is a bit like owning them all. Difficult in this case to callany of their albums essential, even if all of them are worthy of a discovery spin or an occasional additional spin every second year or so
