3 stars BUCKETHEAD - PIKE 89 - The Time Travelers Dream 48th album out of 60 in 2014 and 118th overall All sounds brought to you by Buckethead and all instrumental This has 4 tracks that clock in at 30:16

"Channel 1" (3:03) begins with echoey clean guitars and a thick spacey atmosphere as expected with such an album title. A bit space rock with Pink Floyd being an influence but luckily not totally derivative. There is not only a calm and placid approach to the music but there is also nice distorted guitar chords and a chord progression that somehow reminds me of The Who at times although this is a classic BH sound through and through.

"Channel 2" (3:55) continues unperceptibly but ratchets things up a bit with same melodic developments

"Channel 3" (3:49) also continues the melodic development incrementally ratcheting up the intensity

"Channel 4" (3:28) continues the overall melodic theme but slows it down a bit before moving on. Sounds like the same track actually

"Channel 5" (3:42) uh, same!

"Channel 6" (3:34) ditto

"Channel 7" (2:27) actually sounds different with clean guitars in a very spacey realm with atmospheric attributes and changes the chord progressions which deliver a some more rockin' rhythms but still are firmly placed in space rock territory

"Channel 8" (3:08) like all the rest seems to transition without perception and isn't any different than the last track but has a bit more rock as well as ambience

"Channel 9" (3:10) actually starts different with a totally new sound and style. Beginning with an off keyboard that sounds like a Pagan folk festival bovine horn ceremony, it becomes a very bizarre electronic alien sounding mating song or something!

I like this but don't love it. Nice and weird but not deeply moving on any level
