PHAETON

PHAETON was born in 2017 distilling an energetic technical sound of modern metal and progressive declinations; PHAETON protoplanet imagined to make us explore at a lower cost the metal prog instrumental space on a curve of LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT, MASTODON, ANIMALS AS LEADERS, OPETH or KING CRIMSON in their last phase. A melodic sound with two twin guitars to fill the 'lack' of voice, a 2nd album supposed to be lively in fact to bring emotion, concentration and contemplation.

"Predestination" primary beats, metallic and jazzy atmosphere for a perfect fusion with a frantic and controlled rhythm; an energetic groove that would make you forget the voice. "Oceans of Time" with a chiseled headbanging riff and a fast melodic tune, a well-crafted harmonic and sudden soaring breaks to recharge the batteries; a final solo full of finesse before the return to a very fat, well-crafted sound. "Terra Australis" for an aerial title, between crunch-groovy atmosphere with a tune that spins like a bumblebee and injects energy into the bar, similar but different enough to keep your ears open. "Monsoon" approach nervous, almost nag with a borderline djent heavy riff; it spins, it shoots, effective so as not to leave you unmoved; a synth in the distance to calm this excess of energy a tad, a hovering break but not too much and it starts again; only the finale will slow down this musical fire.

"Refraction" continues on a powerful, invading rhythm, with strong bass lines; a half-reggae break gives the change, brightening before the drums give an even heavier tone, almost djent to continue traveling on this sound vessel they have concocted for us; between groove and metal, between cascade of notes of water and lava. "Geomorphic" intro posed, conventional which calms the ardour; it's going to go up, on a sound reminiscent of a time the solos of METALLICA; a heady synth arrives before seeing a second heavier metal riff tumbling; a little more synth before the finale with an explosive power hammer. "Magma Chamber" and the same nervous riff to poke around a bit more; diffuse sounds of hovering APSARAS mixed with others of RUSH, a bass worthy of a YES before the djent riff takes off again; it's always well done, you don't get bored even if there is a bit of logical 'repetition'. The final riff and the integrated solo: a must. "Between Two Worlds" prefigures the end on a beautiful ambient intro, aerial, as if coming from the solar wind; drops of rain, magma; a journey where you can hear the notes crackle, it's less technical than a LIQUID TENSION but it's more melodic, more structured with guitars that make the show at balanced intervals; the break on an atmospheric MAIDEN.

PHAETON releases an instrumental album in which the voice is not lacking; a nervous, boosted opus where the frank and limpid musicality makes you dizzy, where the notes invite you to travel in space to another dimension, where harmony is combined with controlled djent power; innovative music, on modern math metal-prog.
