Soulsplitter biography

Soulsplitter is a highly dedicated Germany-based music and arts collective founded by the musicians Fenix (drums), Simon (guitars), Daniel (keys) and Felix (bass).

They started writing on their self-released debut record ?Salutogenesis? in 2016, eager from the start to melt their musical backgrounds and influences into a new and original sound. Inspired by the Progressive Rock from the seventies as well as modern Metal sounds, Jazz harmonies and the intricate classical compositions of the late romanticism, their sound evokes reminiscences of Dream Theater, Steven Wilson and Opeth ? but also Pink Floyd, Emerson, Lake and Palmer or Queen. The album consists of eight songs which act like movements in a coherent story, telling a tale of love, death, meaning and self-awareness.

Soulsplitter Progressive Metal

Review by alainPP

4 stars SOULSPLITTER describes itself as a German, avant-garde music and art collective that released one of the best albums of 2019 on a jazz-prog-alternative metal basis; in the direction of Dream Theater and Opeth. This new opus gives the voice to Sami for more continuity; different to avoid quoting great dinos in each title, different because more calm, clear, concise, distilling a clean and singular sound now.

'Disconnected' on djent rock like Tesseract, more modulated than their first opus, fresh, rhythmic, a jazzy soft evolution and a soaring atmosphere like water dripping from a waterfall and signing there the progressive character; end in a soft voice. 'Glass Bridge' intro acoustic guitar, cool title with vocals on a riff typed Terramaze and other groups Periphery or Animals As Leaders; a superb guitar solo and a declination with a synth piano that sets the rhythm. 'Incineration' continues with this characteristic riff of purists, a heavy bass on a coulis of notes; the voice is groove, from beyond the grave and denotes for the unaccustomed, we are far from prog, bam declination melodic limit classic with violin to silence, brilliant. 'Erosion' with reverberation of the air and ballad à la Leprous, voice pulling high, musical litany which rises while keeping this frame; the jerky air arrives and gives the intensity, the rhythm with this piano which distills its notes like a daisy its petals in the wind! The good surprise of this album that the weighted softness can be a plus, just sublime title. 'Thrive' continues on the smooth sound with a jerky tonic djent riff; surprising since we especially feel the voice full of emotion; a long solo confirms the classic avant-garde composition with violin and piano before the pyrotechnic finale. 'Gratitude' air country-jazzy prog declined with Soulsplitter sauce; it smells of the instrumental, it's rhythmic, it's fresh, quite conventional but pleasant, it goes like an interlude; the rhythmic guitar solo accompanied by the small piano suddenly accelerates to give modern metal pep. 'Reconnected' crystalline piano before the machine gun attack; the voice passes through a screaming jolt on a high base becoming lyrical.

Soulsplitter is oriented on a contemporary colorful metal rock, progressive in its musical evolution; melodic arrangements to pose the listener, boosted compositions associating spleen and debauchery of controlled energy, prog metal djent sprinkled with strings and piano for a compendium of contemporary music. A condensed sound that loses a bit of its original creative madness, a posed Haken, a posed Soulsplitter to blend into the current climate.

4 stars SOULSPLITTER describes itself as a collective of music and German art, playing metal visionary whose album "Salutogenesis" is meant to bring us the original health or at least try to fight against stress, at least on an album Self-awareness. A little music of 70s, 80s, those of more fusional 90s, avant-garde in fact, to give a major concept album in power, aided by the US group progrocker HEAD WITH WINGS just do some dates with them. SOULSPLITTER plays helped by different voices in each title.

"The Prophecy" begins the album with a classical intro chords played by the Quartet Nuvola piece preamble voiceover prescient, crystalline piano, one is music full of room here to go to "The Transition", long after priori completely disorganized, pulling OPETH debut on PAIN oF SALVATION on DREAM THEATER on Wilson and just as in the first QUEEN, with Hammond and Mellotron from cast doubt on the ownership of a kind, a low energetic and fat at will, a brief patchwork famous in itself and a singularly extraordinary atmosphere, listen! "The Moloch" continues with a metal as by his riff and jazzy convolutions, a voice this time "death" to HOLY MOSES, then to Joe Jackson, the voice of Manu Wolfsgruber explodes in your melancholy, a little cumbersome to STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, some creation to Haken, outgoing synths fingers Jordan Rudess, a little madness Pervy Perkin as a succession of instruments lost in the music meanders due to a desired dissonance. "The Maze" occurs, darker as eyeing to KING CRIMSON with The voice of LOOF, sound haunting, labyrinthine and solos various jazz, metal, hollywood metal HAKEN sharing our memories with SOEN to the dark side, the piano SEVEN STEPS tO tHE GREEN DOOR, a piece actually indescribable but taking a mood of progressive music from its origins; open your ears, the merger happens as expected at the end of decade! some madness Pervy Perkin as a succession of instruments lost in the music meanders due to a deliberate dissonance. "The Sunset" seems like a flash of sun, an interlude of time passing and Salutogenesis to put in action just before "The Dream" another room of more than 11 minutes when the hooks with the convolutions of OPETH seem to emerge. The violin Nathan Kirzon the BELIEVER or SOLSTICE (go listen to "New Life" visionary in his time) will stay as a thread of this huge amount instrumental to sound metal and merging; the mixture of genres, sub-groups form here almost perfect alchemy to me, although progueux revivals may find it too ahead of our time! Small break violin staggering to a stunning guitar solo to the limit felted jazzy atmospheres. "The Eye of The Cyclone" arrives, voice Loof and Vic Anselmo that she worked with ANTIMATTER, Nuvola accompanied by the Quartet for the melancholy song of the album, which you floored by his intimate leg. "The Sacrifice" then tumbles to the song crucible, one that will make them think your ears; grandiloquent, jazzy Turning now to the colorful metal, symphonic rock to prog all combining such evidence. Some orchestral sounds of DREAM THEATER, NEAL MORSE, of SYMPHONY X, of AMARAN's Plight, ARK even Amaseffer or SHADOW GALLERY come to remind you that these groups have done much for the world prog in general, accompanied by the German Pops Orchestra. grandiloquent, jazzy Turning now to the colorful metal, symphonic rock to prog all combining such evidence. Well, you'll understand this album SOULSPLITTER will bother. On the one hand he managed to condense all that prog metal could give as influences the other merging with the classic motion is completely consumed with logic presence of violins, piano and other stringed instruments; SOULSPLITTER just with this magical and amazing piece redefined music in general, nothing less. Huge upset to the point of my rating.

Thanks to bonnek for the artist addition.
