5 stars A Suitable Mourning Period is the second studio album by Irishman David Alfred REILLY. I must say that I gave the album 5 stars as a sign of respect for David. The album includes only two clean instrumentals, the rest of the material is recorded with a vocalist. And so...I will describe what I liked most about this work. Track #1: Great instrumental . Very mystical-mysterious opening theme with wah-wah guitars (very soulful). Crying keyboards... very very sad melody. A kind of cinematic theme. It pierces my heart, honestly! Then this theme is replaced by an energetic period. A variety worthy of the highest praise. Track No.2 : a kind of airy song (Pink Floyd influence?). Track #5: a very strong song with tenacious vocals and phenomenal guitar parts influenced by Maestro Fripp (but with its own performance zest and bells and whistles).Track №6 : another magical instrumental, a kind of post-rock + art-rock cross ? with an interesting drums-programming part .Very, very tenacious and touching melody! In general, throughout the album, the author offers us listeners a lot of worthy solutions and commendable melodies and arrangements! What will be the third studio album by Effa Lente? I'm really looking forward to his next release. Good luck to David with that. Thank you for the MUSIC!

5 stars Somewhere in early April 2021, I went to the progarchives and saw a name that was unfamiliar to me.Effa Lente ....such a mysterious project name....the gloomy appearance of the performer in the photo is also intriguing.I opened the page and read the review of the album 2015.Yes....you should definitely listen to this.So I did, and then I listened to this forty-five-minute song again and again. There is something in the music from the fiercely appreciated Yugoslavian unique Devil Doll.Of course, with King Crimson come relevant comparisons. But this is such an ORIGINAL piece of music.YOU need to listen to it more than once. .This is a great long instrumental prog rock suite.Keeps you in a pleasant tension .you get high from the unpredictability of the arrangements.I like the interesting and angry sound produced by the electric guitar (I wanted to hear it much more often).(example of an electric guitar: at the beginning of the piece in the area of 3: 20-3: 44 minutes in the left channel is simply amazing!!!) Of course, the excellent vintage timbres of the keyboard instruments cover you with your head. At the end of the suite, we hear a somber speech from the author .And it's all recorded and performed by this Irish genius nugget!Yes.This is such a valuable discovery for me,I am thrilled and pleasantly devastated.Goosebumps run down my skin. I listen to a lot of different prog rock...but this is a true gold mine in this genre.Listen urgently!

4 stars A sweet suite.

"The Effa Lente Configuration: Parts 1-4" was released as the debut album created / produced by The EFFA LENTE, a one-man project of a multi-instrumentalist David Alfred REILLY. Such a huge, magnificent scale for a debut creation reminds me of "Chicago Transit Authority", but his musical style has been well-integrated and matured, even though this stuff is his first opus. An over-44-minute suite (only one track in an album) is so long and voluminous enough that you should listen to it carefully and intentionally. However, deep, rich, heavy soundscape full of colourful variety will never be boring.

The first attack ... what an unsettled, mystic synthesizer shout it is. As if you were drenched in a heavy shower at the Crimson King Court, dark and mysterious melodic scape has bumped into you one after another. Beautiful sensitive keyboard stream combined with pretty complicated rhythm basis is eccentrically addictive. Safe and sound moments can often be heard but basically depth of melody lines goes forward in a theatrical, dramatic manner. Likely to stray into David's magical dimension. His strict, dynamic instrumental control or technique (inspired by heavy / metal progressive, classical music, or more I imagine ... especially through classic piano phrases in the middle and at the last, or violin-like lines in the latter) is beyond expression.

Basically the atmosphere via this suite sounds like King Crimson in Fripp-Wetton-Bruford era meets Dream Theater. Based upon deep, heavy rhythm construction, melodic diversity (sometimes metallic and hardcore, sometimes melodic and lyrical) is launched here and there. David's rhythmic dark ground, keyboard-oriented flower-gardens, guitar-based explosions ... all are enchanting and fantastic. Recently a long progressive track would tend to be avoided I guess (even in the current progressive rock scene), Nonetheless this music enthusiasm has kinda power to make you enjoy without breath. Why don't you have a try?
