Instant Curtain biography
INSTANT CURTAIN is an eclectic prog band from Italy made up of the quartet of Giuseppe PETRUCCI (guitars), Fabrizio PAGGI (bass), Carlo Maria MARCHIONNI (drums), and Massimo GERINI (vocals).

The band plays an interesting combination that includes hints of Canterbury, Jazz/Rock Fusion and Blues with plenty of Heavy progressive action. The band's influences include HATFIELD AND THE NORTH, HENRY COW, GENESIS, YES, SOFT MACHINE, TANGERINE DREAM and POPOL VUH.

This music should appeal to fans of SANGUINE HUM, RAINBOW FACE, ELLESMERE and TURDETANS.

5 stars Somewhere between Canterbury and Italy ... okay, actually it looks like they all are out of the Milan region. The band's name, oftenly coming from spontaneous word plays, in this case, apparently, the result of associations related to song titles from the Matching Mole debut album, which was released way back in 1972. Besides some biography information another important clue, what we are dealing with here, music-wise. Regarding the used instruments the INSTANT CURTAIN crew looks like a standard progressive rock formation. Concerning the compositional aspect, and the technical skills in the same way, they are beyond standard though, way beyond. Leading a guitar school in normal life Giuseppe Petrucci is the driving force, responsible for songwriting and production, and also providing synthesizer and diverse keyboards. Hammond, Fender Rhodes, Mellotron ... wow ... that's half the battle, right?

Canterbury related lyrics are in English, of course. Officially accredited in Italy for the role of Teacher In Modern Singing, vocalist Massimo Gerini provides an exceptional clear and charming voice, which impresses me in the same way ... let's say like Johannes Kuchta from the German band Voyager IV, or Sanguine Hum's Joff Winks for example. And then studied bass player Fabrizio Paggi as well as drummer Carlo Marchionni are completing a line-up that is up to deliver a masterpiece of progressive rock. Tricky compositions are offering a bunch of turns and time changes. Diverse King Crimson inspired guitar lines, like it is to detect on April. Spellbinding Mellotron and Hammond input everywhere, especially on All White or The Ship Battle Down.

It looks like they still are not signed by a record label. Regarding the quality of the songs only a matter of time, unless they should refuse that intention of course. Concerning the sound in general INSTANT CURTAIN are influenced by, respectively close to the likes of Caravan, Matching Mole, Sanguine Hum, or maybe their predecessor Antique Seeking Nuns even better. The Canterbury genre may be assigned with a retro stamp for one or two. They are refreshing it anyhow. Roundabout 50 minutes of pure beauty. 'Let Tear US Apart' is a passionate adaption, congratulations on this album. A must have, simple as that. And a sophomore production should be a mandatory task. Album Of The Year 2020!
