Albatros biography
ALBATROS only had one album, in which they were invited into a studio to record. The 3 songs written had to be shortened to fit an LP format. However, this one album was the only effort that we heard from ALBATROS, and that's a shame because their theatric and complex arrangements similar to early GENESIS and EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER, were great to hear, they had a very distinct sound. The band was a sextet and consisted of Peter Breitbarth on guitar, Thomas Büscher on drums, Achim Hubricht on bass, Harald Hubricht on keyboards, Christian Köppen on piano, Hansi Köppen on vocals and Jürgen Polzin on congas.

Of course, "Garden of Eden" is recommended, the songs included on it were actual shortened versions of the real arrangements even though they seem extended anyways. It was the only album from them and now that it's on CD, it's a tad easier to find even though there were only 500 pressings of this album.

Try to get a hold of "Garden of Eden", I highly recommend that you check out their sound.

3 stars An obscure album, re-released on CD and ending up in my collection on the basis of the others releases. The power of ProgArchives.

Am I disappointed ? No. I got what I think I was getting. Kraut rock with some space and symphonic rock in the mix. And that is exactly what this is. The psychedelic rock element is pretty strong here. The symphonic prog elements is a bit harder to spot though. The songs are pretty good. Good keyboards and guitars leads their charge. The vocals are a bit dubious. The 1970s feeling is pretty much overwhelming throughout. This is for me a typical Krautrock album from the 1970s. Unfortunate, the songs here are merely good. There is no great track here. Neither is there any weak tracks here too. This album is ticking in nicely at three stars. Don't let that scare you off purchasing this album though.

5 stars The band begin in 1974 in Hagen but unfortunately this excelent album was emerged only in 1978, when progressive rock was not more in "fashion". Then this first work is sadly also the last. A similar problem that happened with Locanda delle Fate and his masterpiece "Forse Le Lucciole Non Si Amano Più". Since then Albatros is almost completely forgotten until Garden of Delights reintroduce this gem to prog fans in general and kraurock fans in particular. The six members combo were not virtuose musicians but they managed to do an album with 3 long and very complex tracks, most instrumental. Singer sometimes remember Grobschnitt's Wildschwein (Stefan Daneliak). In my opinon It is an excelent addition to any prog music collection and it is indispensable for anyone interested in German symphonic bands. 5 stars !

4 stars Very hard to get this album, but if you do, don't hesitate to listen at least once, to me was a happy discovery, and an excellent addition to my music collection. One of the very good german bands from the late '70. I might say they sound like no other group i listen before, maybe similar bands are Dice or other german bands from late '70 like Tibet or Minotaurus, but for sure very intristing. Specialy i like the voice, but also the instruments are very well used. The album is made of 3 long pieces, one of them nearly 20 min, with great moods and time signatures. Not a particulary instrument is in front here, each one does a good job as a whole and the result is 4 album to me. Garden of eden is a great album by this almost unknown band. I can recommend for fans of bands mention above 4 stars for sure. I have to say it, despite the good album they made, i wonder why they don't choose other cover for Garden of eden, this is one of the most uninspired covers i ever saw from entire music, anyway 4 stars and get it you will not be deseppointed.

3 stars well this group could have made it big,but i dont know why they just bought the one album out,the original album was a pressing of 500 so its very rare, this actual cd was made from the lp record i woulndt say the sound is fantastic but sometimes the music should come first,a lost gem,the singer really sounds like martin griffiths from BEGGARS OPERA and the songs run it that vein also, classis sound from that period a good buy
Thanks to ProgLucky for the artist addition.
