3 stars Equal Vector is a young progressive metal band from Greece. Formed in Athens this band first target was to combine the traditional progressive metal elements a la Dream Theater with their own ideas. They release so far a single album in 2009 named Aspectations. Well the title of the album is very evocative for the band because they manage here to create a good album, but no more than a good release to listen from time to time. The music is ok with nice breaks and shifts between musicians, who done a great job, but I don't think this album will penetrate the wall of bands that emerge in last years. Is a pleasent release, the greek magazins told the world that is an extraordinary progressive metal band for today standards, ok but they bring nothing new here, nothing groundbreaking, only pleasent pieces, I heared this kind of aproach to prog metal hundred times before. If the instrumental passages are ok, even in places very good like the instrumental piece The Sence of Balance, excellent track, the voice is kinda mediocre and without a proper rage for this kind of metal. I think the problem for eastern prog metal bands are the vocalists, many times bands don't have a proper vocalist to uplift the band to a higher level. So, an ok album all the way , but nothing realy outstanding here.3 stars I think is fair.
