What Mad Universe biography
WHAT MAD UNIVERSE (sometimes stylized as WHA TMAD UNIVERSE) are an instrumental post rock/metal duo from Albi, France, started in 2008. After releasing a demo and an EP in 2009, the duo released their first full length album, A Cosmic Chapter with Gaia, in 2010, followed by another EP in 2011.
WHAT MAD UNIVERSE play in the vein of tried-and-true post-metal, with lots of light/heavy contrast, lengthy, big buildups, and layer upon layer of guitars and electronics, but with the thematic elements dealing with astrology, cosmology, and mythology, creating a very spacey atmosphere in their lengthy and swelling compositions. With strong, mid-tempo riffing akin to PELICAN, the instrumental prowess of RUSSIAN CIRCLES, and the etherial ambience similar to what's found in recordings like CULT OF LUNA's Salvation, WHAT MAD UNIVERSE will appeal to all breeds of post-rock and post-metal fans alike.
