RABBINICAL SCHOOL DROPOUTS were founded as a Californian avantgarde jazz octet influenced by a large amount of pioneers around 2000. The founding members were Nicolas Ignacio CARVAJAL (drums, drum set), Bob WELLER (piano), Danny WELLER (bass), Hank FRIEDMANN (bass clarinet), Jon-Jon FRIEDMANN (harp, cello, guitar, mandolin), Michael FRIEDMANN (clarinet, tenor saxophone, melodica), Jonathan ROOTER (trombone), Ravi DEO (tabla), Scott Paul LEVINE (oboe, piano, English horn, bassoon), and Ze'ev MAHAR (congas). They've launched their debut album named "Cosmic Tree" in 2002 via Tzadik Records, and other three official releases - Counterfeit Gelt (2003), Vehicles Behind Comets (2005), and Introducing Rabbinical School Dropouts (2006) - via Ethnic Warrior Productions.
