The Six Parts Seven biography
US band THE SIX PARTS SEVEN was formed in 1995, at first consisting of Allen Karpinski (guitars, bass, keyboards) Jay Karpinski (drums) only, but soon expanding to a band with an initial line-up where Jay Visker (bass), Tim Gerak (guitars) and Heather Wiker (viola) supplementd the formative duo. They released their first album "...In Lines and Patterns" in 1998, followed by "Silence Magnifies Sound" in 2000. Two years later the band signed to Suicide Squeeze Records, and their first album on this label was "Things Shaped in Passing" in 2002. At this stage Wiker had left the band while Matt Haas (lap steel, guitars) and Steven Clements (piano) had joined, The Six Parts Seven now a six man strong unit. The remix album "Lost Notes From Forgotten Songs" appeared in 2003, and in 2004 "Everywhere and Right Here" was released. Prior to the latter of these the core band was reduced to a quartet, now consisting of the Karpinski brother, Tim Gerak and Mike Tolan (bass, piano, guitars). This version of the band also released their so far final album "Casually Smashed to Pieces" in 2007, with a substantial cast of guest musicians helping out. The Six Parts Seven officially entered a state of hiatus in 2008.

The Six Parts Seven's brand of instrumental post rock has been described as light and positive in expression, with references to the likes of GYBE! as well as bands like Sigur Ros.
