Monjoie biography
Italian band MONJOIE was formed in 1999 by Alessandro Brocchi (vocals, guitars, tampura), Valter Rosa (guitars, bouzuki), Alessandro Mazzitelli (keyboards, synthesizers, programming), Roberto Rosa (bass), Nicola Immordino (drums, djembe) and Davide Baglietto (tabla, derbouka, sonagli, tiktiri). Their aim was to blend ethnic music, European medieval music, acoustic 70's music and singer songwriter oriented music with their idea of contemporary pop music. Their debut album Contravveleno came in 2002. Two years later Il Bacio di Polifemo followed.

Following an 8 year long hiatus Monjoie returned in 2012 with their third and so far most recent album, Affetto e Attrazione, which was released through Italian label Lizard Records. Drummer Immordino and bassist Rosa had left the band at this point, replaced by Davide Bonfante and Ivan Ghizzoni.

4 stars Italian band MONJOIE has been around in one form or another since they started out back in 1999. They released two albums early on, "Contravveleno" in 2002 and "Il Bacio di Polifemo" in 2004, and then faded out of sight for a bit. They returned in 2012 with a third studio production, "Afetto e Attrazione", which was released via Lizard Records.

Monjoie plays around with a myriad of stylistic elements on their third album "Afetto e Attrazione", where a certain alternative rock or new wave foundation and elements from folk music are most numerous, but also with an approach and sometimes arrangements or compositional structures that bring them closer to progressive rock on occasion. The music is likeable rather than challenging however, and a suggested audience would be those who enjoy sophisticated mainstream rock as well as those who enjoy progressive rock with a strong degree of mainstream rock tendencies. In both cases a certain affection for a band that explores outside of common conventions will be needed.
