Short Wave biography
Founded in 1991 (as "Hugh Hopper and Friends") - Disbanded in 1996

SHORT WAVE was a short lived Canterbury jazz act started by Hugh HOPPER in 1991. The group started out with the name 'Hugh Hopper and Friends' with their debut performance at the Jazz Festival of Le Mans in France, and in their line-up featured famous musicians of the Canterbury scene like Phil MILLER and Pip PYLE from NATIONAL HEALTH and HATFIELD AND NORTH, and saxophonist and flautist Didier MALHERBE from various incarnations of GONG and CLEARLIGHT. The group performed concerts in England and France until 1996 with occasional help from guest musicians like Elton DEAN (SOFT MACHINE, SUPERSISTER) and in 1994 even with Daevid ALLEN of GONG. SHORT WAVE only recorded one live album from their performance in October 1992 which was released next year.
