Wow! Interesting band from Australia! Found them on The Bird's Road Collective page on Bandcamp (http://birdsrobe.bandcamp.com/) when listing to the new Anubis. Very interesting and excellent! Not sure of the category, though. Maybe progressive metal, because that's definitely there, but far more varied. Quite a bit of interesting saxophone on some of the songs, among other things. A bit of post-metal as well. Maybe just plain Heavy Prog would be appropriate? Or Eclectic Prog? Hmmm... They surely belong here somewhere!!
"Time Minus Five" "Daggers" "In The Balance" Listen to the entire album at http://birdsrobe.bandcamp.com/album/left-of-mind. Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/piratewastaken. This is my first recommendation. Hope I did OK! :-) Frank Edited by infocat - October 08 2011 at 23:30 |

I am continually amazed by these Aussie prog bands - fantastic stuff!!
![]() As to genre assignment, these guys are tough indeed. I think they're a bit too heavy for Eclectic, and they remind me of an artsier, heavier Fair to Midland, but I'm not sure if the alt metal element of the music will be enough for Heavy Prog, so I think PM would be the best place for them. Frank - do you think they're an Experimental/Post Metal band? I ask because the team has requested Alex and I to ask what sub genre of prog metal each suggestion is before notifying the PMT.

I'm no expert! I'm listening to the album now for only the second time, and know nothing else about them. But I would think that Experimental/Post Metal would be quite appropriate. Let's try that one! (Hmm, I might have to check out this Fair to Midland band. Especially since the town I was born in is called Midland! ![]() Thanks! Frank

Fair to Midland are great - they play a cool brand of accessible and folk-tinged prog metal.
I'll alert the PMT.

Here's a link to their EP from 2009: http://birdsrobe.bandcamp.com/album/pirate. Actually quite a bit less metal (other than maybe the first track) and more sax. Dare I say it's even more eclectic? Frank

Yay! My first suggestion added! I think Heavy Prog is the appropriate sub-genre, also.
Can you change the title of track 4 from "In The Balance (free)"? "(free)" is not part of the title. It just happens to be a free download from the bandcamp page. Now where is the addition of Tune?! BTW, I got the new Fair to Midland yesterday. Seems OK; perhaps a bit too "metal" (at least with the rhythm guitar), but I'm guessing I'll grow in to it. |

^Done. Someone's been caught copying/pasting from Bandcamp
![]() Tune's a tough egg to crack. We moved them out of Heavy pretty quickly, they got a tie vote in crossover, post bounced them right back to crossover, etc. They're still under "new" at crossover so I'm sure the team will reach a decision eventually. Heh, I haven't heard FtM's new effort but I love Fables from a Mayfly - try to check that one out! And I love the quote in your sig - Sky Architect was easily my favorite find from last year, tied probably with Haken And one last thing
