I'm not familiar with this album but have seen either Jean or Friede mention it. Peter Hamill's concept album "Fall of the House of Usher" BTW Andrea,I live in Baltimore,Md.,where Poe lived and died. His house and his grave are not too far from where I live. |

if you haven't heard it, you must get The Alan Parsons Project - Tales of Mystery and Imagination
music inspired by Poe's work has a 15 odd minute instrumental of 'The Fall of the House of Usher' the Tell Tale Heart etc..... lent that album to a friend so I don't have the track list in front of me. A HIGHLY recommended prog album |

There is a Crimson Glory song called Masque of the Red Death. It seems to be Poe-related. |

Eric Woolfson, who was as important to the APP as Parsons until he left (if not more so) released an album a couple of years back called "More Tales of Mystery and Imagination". A fairly uneven collection, but similar to the APP, and some very good tracks. |

"The Fall of the House of Usher" is an opera by Peter Hammill, based on
the story of Poe by the same name. In the story of Poe the friend of
Usher, who tells the tale, does not
have a name, so Hammill picked up the name Montresor from another Poe
story. He also expanded the role of the quack (who is only mentioned in
one sentence in the Poe story) a bit, invented a chorus in the fashion
of Elizabethian theatre (which tells the tale as it moves along), and
gave the house a chorus of voices (an ingenious idea, which works
excellently). Here the list of characters:
Roderick Usher - Peter Hammill Montresor - Andy Bell Madeleine Usher - Lene Lovich The Chorus - Sarah Jane Morris The Herbalist - Herbert Grönemeyer The Voices of the House - Peter Hammill (in a chorus with himself) |

I think there was a Symphony X song (King of Terrors?) that was based on some of Poe's work.

Propaganda - a dream within a dream. from 80's, it went like this: same riff that goes all over the track, start with a woman voice who declaim the song words, and beautiful synth harmonies. after it the atmosphere is changed, played by another instruments, and the same riff continues. Beautiful and impressive !!! |

Thanks friends! I own that Alan Parsons Project album (1976) and I knew of that Hammill's solo album! I didn't know nothing else in particular yet, so I thank you for your informations! really Poe is a great inspiring writer!!! I was sure of that! You're lucky Progtologist to live in that place where lived Poe! I think he should be one of the most important "heroes" of your city!! Poe was one of the first novels' writer I've started to read passionately!!!!! My favourite Poe's novel is The Masque Of The Red Death |

Mr. Doctor either dedicates or acknowledges Poe on Devil Doll's Dies Irae. I don't have my copy in front of me here at work.
