Topic: Mastodon album poll Posted: January 27 2017 at 17:47 |
one album follows the other in consequative order, in a steady and strong delivery, i love them all
Mainly this poll is made on the background of the release of next MASTODON album which is released on March 31.

I'm not a big fan but Crack the Skye is the one that has impressed me the most.
Some of the early stuff like Iron Tusk and March of the Fire Ants are quite nostalgic though

Classical music isn't dead, it's more alive than it's ever been. It's just not on MTV.

Haven't heard BM or TH, but Leviathan is the best I've heard from them. I'm not too keen on Once More.......great cover though, especially as gatefold 2LP. And my Leviathan is a pink (!) vinyl.

^ I found Crack The Skye to be very good, no doubt, but I felt the band were trying too hard to be technical and Progressive and it felt a bit forced to me. I think Remission is my outright favourite (still seeking out a vinyl copy) but until then, I often return to Leviathan. I hope the new release will ditch the 'accessibility', if you wish to agree, of Once More 'Round The Sun, and blend their furious approach of the first 2 albums with CtS. Then I will put them on the pedestal. Until then, Mastodon remain an only very good, modern Metal band to me.

I've not listened to Remission yet but I think it is safe to say that Leviathan is their best. Crack the Skye is definitely their weakest. The rest pretty much on the same level.

Mastodon's pretty hit and miss for me. Crack the Skye's the best metal album ever as far as I'm concerned, and I enjoyed what I've heard off Leviathan.
Blood Mountain and Once More 'Round the Sun, on the other hand, didn't do much for me, and, although I've heard them, I can't remember anything from Remission and The Hunter.
Looking forward to the new one though. Hope it's something closer to CtS than BM and OMRtS, but looking at the track list, with its 11 tracks, it doesn't look like any of them could be of any great length like on Crack.

Their covers are all awesome. Their music much less so IMO.
I guess BM over Crack.

Leviathan: Great record. The later records remind me a bit of an Alice in Chains cover band.
