73 - big year in Prog but 50 years ago!! Anyway, let's kick off with the big 6 before anyone says 'what about...'? Of these, only 'Tales' got to number 1 in the UK - will it do the same here?

Genesis - Selling England by the Pound.
All are masterpieces and love all, but Genesis' album has a very special and unique place on my heart. Besides, that can be perfectly seen on my avatar on Progarchives.

All great records, but Selling England has stood higher through the years for me.

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon was ubiquitous at the time. Genesis - Selling England by the Pound went on to become an absolute favourite Genesis album for me. But ELP - Brain Salad Surgery took me by storm at the time. It's now maybe my 3rd favourite ELP release

I think it's a shame that:
Renaissance: Ashes Are Burning Camel: Debut Mike Oldfield: TB Eloy: Inside Greenslade: Bedside Manners ELO: On The Third Day weren't included...

Ahh, no Henry Cow's LegEnd, Magma's Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh, Area's Arbeit macht frei, Franco Battiato's Sulle corde di Aries, Can's Future Days, Spirogyra's Bells, Boots and Shambles, Faust IV, Gong's Angel's Egg and Flying Teapot, Osanna's Palepoli, Le Orme's Felona e Sorona, Tangerine Dream's Atem, Samla Mammas Manna's Maltid, Gentle Giant's In a Glass House, Museo Rosenbach's Zarathustra, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso's Io sono nato libero, Caravan's For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night...? ![]() ![]() But seriously, 1973 is one of the, if not THE, biggest years in Prog , and I see nothing wrong with the "let's kick off with the big 6 before anyone says 'what about...'?" and "Poll Question: Fave from 73 - Big 6 first" approach except that no matter how you phrase it, someone is likely to go the what about...? and wish you had mentioned route. There are so many that can be covered, and people's favourites are likely to be left out. Our three lists barely scratch the surface. It is an incredible year for Prog (as are 70, 71, 72...) I have thought of 73 and 72 as the two biggest years, I vote for King Crimson - Larks' Tongues in Aspic. Edited by Logan - January 24 2023 at 09:44 |

Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I observed before. It can be much like that with music for me; immersed in experiencing the moment.

I refereed to that in my post (verslibre just quoted the first part), and I assume he knows and was referring to the subsequent lists. As it is both in the poll question line and the opening post, I would have thought it would be hard to miss, but then there have been many times when people would only look at the topic's title and the poll options.
As for Rick Wakeman, surely you are rick-rolling us. Just kidding, will leave that to Paul to mention. |

Clearly all great albums, but for it's stature in music history Pink Floyd~Dark Side Of the Moon. Close to every record store in the world still carries this album in the bins....it still sells.
