Peter Gabriel - Peter Gabriel 3 (Melt)

The first time I heard Peter Hammill - A Black Box was on the radio around the time of its release. I remember that I was driving at the time, and that I disliked the album. This has kept me from revisiting the album up to this day. Perhaps I should discard my prejudice against the album and listen to it again with a fresh mind.

Kate Bush (by several country miles). Never loved that PG album. Ground breaking it was but mostly it's a tough listen. I like percussion and symbals in my music!

At the time I bought Keith Emerson's debut solo album on vinyl and was very pleased mostly. It had some great prog moments but also a lot of great horror soundtrack music. I leant it to a friend who was into prog but he disliked it. That took the wind out of my sails! I still think its good although Nighthawks was a better soundtrack release (and better film) being more consistent. That was the last time Emerson worked with Godfrey Salmon, he was the guy who conducted ELP's orchestra on the Works tour and with that lovely English voice announced them onto the stage back in the day. He was also an excellent music arranger and helped Emerson a lot on those early solo albums.

I never noticed that the album had no cymbals it. It wasn't until much later that I read that this was a particular innovation of the album.

Bowie narrowly ahead of Gabriel. Confronted by nouns, I wasn't expecting to be so constipated.

A wild and woolly vote for Woolly Wolstenholme of Barclay James Harvest, even though I know I'm the only one who'll vote for him. Baa!

Peter Gabriel III (Melt) - Not just just one of the best albums of 1980, but of the entire 80s decade.

That you rated it only 3 stars makes it all the more humorous.

QE2 for me. I prefer his late 70s/early 80s stuff to the first 3.

When Peter Gabriel has an album in the poll, all of the other albums tend to just melt away.
