Topic: Here Comes The Flood Posted: July 16 2009 at 13:35 |
It's heaving down with rain in Wales (again ), and those nice people at Last FM have put this great track on for my pure enjoyment. However, which is better. The original, with that incredible guitar solo, or one of the slower acoustic versions? I went, after much deliberation, with the original.

I really dislike the mellower versions. The power of the original's chorus is where it's at.

I think it's practically identical to the original. By the way, my house is between two creeks, speak not of this flood thing. Actual photo of my back yard: My Mom was living in Falmouth Kentucky when it flooded:

It's an excellent song in all its incarnations, but the original remains my favourite.

Mike Gibbs' original orchestration is magnificent, it perfectly complements PG's vocal. I'm amazed everyone else here seems to agree (nine votes at the moment, all in favour of that first version), especially since PG himself usually makes noises in favour of the piano-only version. Hurray, you've all got it right!

Just what I was about to say. That was the first version I heard, so I've got a soft spot for it.

Its close though I swing slightly towards the original for its fullness however I love the other versions as well. I saw Peter play it live in concert just him and the piano it was awesome.

Yes, so did I, and you are right. The emotion and the feeling it produced in the autitorium was incredible. That is why, actually, it was a bit of a hard choice for me.

When I first saw this title, I thought it was going to be a new Neal Morse album. On track; First album.

Has to be the original with Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner on guitar. Those guys were 2 outstanding session guitarist's. a la Lou Reed's - Rock and Roll Animal & Alice Cooper's -Welcome to my Nightmare etc. They seemed to travel around with Bob Ezrin at that time.

Oh no, it's VERY far from the original, Peter was not pleased with the original, so he re-recorded this quiet simple version.

I was close to tears when I first heard the original one, but when I heard Shaking the Tree I was sort of bummed that it isn't the original up there.
