Topic: Elevator Prog Posted: August 08 2007 at 00:45 |
The question this time around is: If prog were used in an elevator, what songs would be played as you rise to the top floor? Looking for Muzakky prog songs, but with a little pizzaz.
Cheers,
Woody

Brain Salad Surgery.
I jest. Ian Anderson's solo work Divinities was labeled a kind of classical/new age fusion, and I always thought that if were gonna get away with playing something artsy in a public setting (like an elevator or a supermarket) that wasn't totally stagnent, that'd be my bet.
Plus, I love Ian. Biased.

Berlin School FTK! Prog-Electronic boys like TaDream, Ashra, and Klaus Schulze are the kings of prog muzak.

As I've said before (even in my only review), the only good example of elevator-prog there is is ASIA. Perfect for office buildings where most of the workers and employees are somewhat prog-concious....

Asia wasn't prog. Asia was several prog musicians making some rather bland pop.
Not at all related to muzak either. So The T is 0 for 2.

Agree, call it Lite Prog, AOR, POP or whatever, but no relation with muzak.

Or a really cheesy ethereal version of Stairway to Heaven to freak people out

the obvious answer.... Genesis. Just enough moments of pizzaz for people to put them in the same class as groups like Yes, ELP, and King Crimson

Some interesting choices here folks, but some of them are hard for me to come by. It seems like any music you pump through a 2 inch plastic speaker will come out fairly elevatorish. This attempt at prog muzak may be a lost cause but it is still fun to try to create a set that would fit in an elevator setting. This has not been my best theme choice lol, but the show will go on anyway. Feel free to drop in later at 2:00 pacific, and offer me your suggestions live. I wish I had found a cheesy version of stairway. As always thanks for playing along.

I have actually heard a muzak version of Pink Floyd's "San Tropez". Very surprising, as it's not one of their most widely known tunes.

I have never once heard any sort of music in an elevator. Just silence and moaning induced by nausea.

Oh Great. Thanks. I'd finally managed to expunge that album from my memory and you drag it back.
