The Shining by Black Sabbath, inspired by the Stephen King novel of the same name. It's the first song on the Tony Martin era record The Eternal Idol. Very underrated indeed...

I was at Barnes and Nobles yesterday and I happened to see that they have created a graphic novel based on The Stand. It looked pretty cool. They must have broken into a series of books to tell the whole story. I only saw two of them so I am not sure how big of a set it was but I found it to be interesting.

I'll have to give those Blind Guardian songs a closer listen; I've been eyeing the Demons & Wizards album for awhile, but haven't picked it up yet. That is good to know.
I read the lyrics to Time Has Come, and it certainly sounds like it is based on the Trashcan Man.

Randal Flagg is quite possibly King's best character. Those familiar with the Dark Tower series are aware of just how prominent a role he plays in King's universe. I think an entire band should be dedicated to Flagg someday!

"Lionheart" is another Blind Guardian song with Dark Towers in the lyrics according to wikipedia. There are also a ton of BG songs about other King books.

Two Blind Guardian songs, Somewhere Far Beyond and Carry the Blessed Home, are based on The Dark Tower as are three songs on Demons&Wizards' Touched by the Crimson King album.
Wasn't Spock's Beard's Time Has Come based on the thrashcan man? |

I almost forgot. Anthrax wrote another song called Misery Loves Company on their State of Euphoria album that is based on the Stephen King novel Misery. |

Another band that I remember being inspired by Stephen King is Anthrax. Their song Among the Living is also based on The Stand. They say that their album cover is based on the character Randall Flagg from The Stand. Also, from the same album, is the song Skeletons in the Closet which is based on the Stephen King short story Apt Pupil, from his book titled Different Seasons.

I believe in Christine he references a number of rock and roll songs too. Generally, songs playing on the car radio. If my memory serves me right, Christine would actually "choose" particular songs to play on the radio to fit her mood.

Well there are several references to various rock tunes in The Dark Tower. Most notably "Hey Jude".

Here's a rather interesting, and surprisingly relevant development!

I wasn't aware of either of those references. It is amazing the stuff that can be learned.

There could be a lot of discussion in the reverse of this thread, that is, what rock references Stephen King has in his books. In fact, after we wrote and named the song Captain Trips, which is the nickname of the virus that wipes out humanity in The Stand, I discovered that King got it from a nickname for Jerry Garcia! Also, the title of The Shining was inspired by the John Lennon song Instant Karma ("We all shine on...")... |

An interesting thing with Stephen King is that he is most definitely a fan of rock and roll. I seem to recall some of his novels having song lyrics quoted at the start of each chapter.

Pop metal band Europe also sang about a lovely girl named Carrie, but I think that it was perhaps a different Carrie.

The new Shadow Circus album Whispers and Screams features a 7-part epic titled Project Blue which is based on the Stephen King novel The Stand. It is also my understanding from their bio here on PA, that the song Journey of Everman from their debut album Welcome to The Freak Room is based on the Stephen King story The Talisman. Do you know of any other songs that are based on Stephen King novels or movies or TV series, etc?
Also, in the event you have not seen the thread discussing Shadow Circus' new album, please click on this link and join our discussion. http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=64762&PID=3562331#3562331
