Excuse me if this has already been posted. Anyway, I think 2021 has been another slow year for prog. 2019 was the ultimate year in prog for me. So, what are your favorite prog releases of 2021? I'm still waiting for the new Ske. I have a very short list.

1. Transatlantic - The Absolute Universe - Forevermore (Extended Version)
2. French TV - All Our Failures are Behind Us
3. Lyle Workman - Uncommon Measures
4. Dewa Budjana - Naurora
5. MFTJ - My Mom's Getting a Horse

So far I think this year's shaping up better than the last one. Not every year can be a 2019. The new Rascal Reporters release did not disappoint and I'm looking forward to the new Missigno album too (and very much to the new Devilish Dear album but that's not really prog).

My favourite prog albums of this year so far (I've heard most of these just once up until now so my opinion may change in the future):
- Monobody - Comma
- Black Midi - Cavalcade
- The Fourth World Quartet - 1975
- Desertion Trio - Numbers Maker
- Real Loud - Real Loud
- Mahogany Frog - In The Electric Universe
- Sun Colored Chair - Seated
- Cody Carpenter - Memories And Dreams

2021 has been and is shaping up to be an incredible year for music.

Favorite releases (some are prog, some sorta prog, some not particularly prog)
1: black midi - Cavalcade (and it's a distant 1st place, being honest)
2: L.W. - King Gizzard

Not going to attempt to rank these next ones, but I really enjoy all of them

For the First Time - Black Country New Road
SHYGA! - Psychedelic Porn Crumpets
Tell Me If You Get Lost - Tyler the Creator
Crash of the Crown - Styx
Without Notice - Bend The Future
Fortitude - Gojira
Afrique Victime - Mdou Moctar
Daddys Home - St Vincent
Helloween - Self Titled
Kingdom of Oblivion - Motorpsycho
Point of Know Return Live and Beyond - Kansas

It's also pretty bizarre that this year we're going to be seeing new releases from Yes, Jethro Tull and Caravan

This thread and it's included lists simply remind me how much new progressive music I should be investigating!

I have been buying a lot of stuff lately but 2021 releases are scarce indeed. I do have the new Fleet Foxes which I really dig. Been meaning to pick up:
Needlepoint - Walking Up That Valley
Elephant9 - Arrival Of The New Elders
Ske - Insolubilia
Floating Points & Pharoah Sanders w/ the London Symphony Orchestra - Promises
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Butterfly 3000
…as well as the new Jogsteed Blue! Jack Empaler album.

I usually start digging into the new year around August, so I've only listened to a few offerings, and thus far these would rank around 4 stars:

Caligonaut - Magnified as Giants
Sun Colored Chair - Seated
Transatlantic - The Absolute Universe: The Breath of Life

Ask this question again in the fall and I'll probably have at least 30 things or more to list. I've actually been listening to mostly older stuff from a CD backlog I had, plus exploring more of the avant side of things from the 1970s through the 1990s to add to the ever-growing list of things to look for.

It must be that time of the year, as many people seem to be posting their lists of their favourite albums from the year so far. So I thought would give it a go. My first attempt at coming up with a short list had almost 70 albums on it….. (sigh)

I kept cutting down until I got to 50 which was relatively easy, and then down to 30, which was harder. But I really struggled to turn that 30 into 25. Eventually I managed, and just for the fuller picture, here in alphabetical order are the top 25, and also the next 25.

Top 25:

Æetheria Conscientia - Corrupted Pillars of Vanity
Aphexia - Interdependence
Black Country, New Road - For The First Time
Chassm - Falling Forever
Cronofonía - Cronofonía

Echoes and Signals - Mercurial
Fair Wind Pleases - The Wind of the Season
Five the Hierophant- Through Aureate Void
Föss - Memorias de la Peste
Grey Mouse - A Moment of Weakness

Grorr - Ddulden’s Last Flight
Dusan Jevtovic - Vasil Hadzimanov - DUO
Kurushimi - Chaos Remains
Laughing Stock - Zero
The Lion’s Daughter - Skin Show

Massen - ContrAesthetic
Minutian - Magical Thinking
Mission Jupiter - Talk to Me
River Flows Reverse - When River Flows Reverse
Sauropoda - Pangea

Shiva the Destructor - Find the Others
Toboggan - Première Descente
The Vicious Head Society - Extinction Level Event
Voronai - The Last Three Seconds
Way Wau Collectif - Yaral Sa Doom

Next 25:

Aborym - Hostile
Ad Nauseam - Imperative Imperceptible Impulse
The Anchoress - The Art of Losing
Ángel Ontalva - Songs to Say Goodbye
Årabrot - Norwegian Gothic

Asymmetry - Anima
Atravan - The Grey Line
Black Midi - Cavalcade
Dewa Budjana - Naurora
Confusion Field - Disconnection Complete

DROTT - DROTT
Jonatan Piña Duluc - Sountrack Vol.1: Secuencia
Chloe Herington - Silent Reflux
Isnaj Dui - Bright Star
JackDupon - La République Dominicale du Zoo

No Mandate - Recalibrate
Nubiyan Twist - Freedom Fables
postcards from new zealand - city islands
Real Loud - Real Loud
Sons Of Kemet - Black To The Future

Squid - Bright Green Field
Triangle Singular - Starbreaker
Varego - Varego
VOLA - Witness
Steven Wilson - The Future Bites

I’ve listened to not quite 200 releases from 2021 so far, and I still haven’t scratched the surface, as I seem to have listened to hardly any of the albums featuring in the lists for the year so far I’ve seen in the last couple of weeks!
